Pirdop Valley is situated almost in the geografic centre of Bulgaria. Located north from The Balkans, south from Sredna Gora, it is surround in the east and west from Koznica and Galabec cols. The town of Pirdop is 42° 42' north and 24° 11` east from Greenwich. The mild and healthy climate attracts tourists and people on holiday.

According to the statistics, only day or two are foggy here and the blanket of snow lasts 25-30 days a year. However, in the coldest month - January, the average temperature is above 0.

Many legends seek for an explanation of the name origin (The Town of the Storks), but none has a persuasive truthful roots so far. Six kilometres Northwest from the town are the monumental relics of the Elenskata Bazilika. Not far from there one can find remains of an ancient village, obviously existed later. There is a hypothesis, it is the disappeared old Thracian town of Burdapa, mentioned from the Byzantine chronologist Prokopij. Might be, the Proto-Pirdop settlements, united in the old town of Burdapa, could be found in the relics of the Elenskata Bazilika, in the outskirts of The Balkans.
