Exploring the Eastern Strandja Reserve

This is a full day outing

We begin our trip in the by heading north on the coastal highway to Velika and a visit to the Serafimovi Botanical Gardens. The gardens are home to one of the world's largest privately held collection of cacti, poppies and endemic flora of the Strandja region. One can also find a lot of subtropical plants like kiwi, bamboo, laurel, fig-trees, lemons growing there (a donation, or a purchase of some of the cacti plants on sale is strongly recommended  for the upkeep of the gardens).

We will then backtrack on the coastal highway and begin our drive inland towards the villages of Kosti (within the Silkosia Biosphere) Balgari (a visit to St. Constantine and Elena Church), Kondolovo and Gramatikovo.

Each of these villages provide a unique perspective of architecture, myth and history.  Balgari with its fire dancers (first weekend in June) and Gramatikovo with it's village architecture and Thracian tombs. We will meet with the locals who will provide you with an insider's view of the Eastern Strandja.
