The Balkan Trout is a typical cold water fish.
The Balkan Trout spawns from the end of September to the beginning of December at water temperature of 6 – 8o Ñ. During this period it swims upstream. The tract for development of the spawn is continuous and subject to considerable changes in accordance with the water temperature. The sustenance of the young fish consists of insect larvae – may-flies, case-worms and the for the adult species – all of this and also small fish.
Habitat – the fast flowing rivers whose waters are highly saturated with oxygen.
