One of the oldest settlements in the region

Gela is situated 18 km away from the famous ski resort Pamporovo in the foothills of the highest Rhodope peak Perelik and is one of the oldest settlements in the region. The village has only about 100 inhabitants. The silence here is broken only by the ringing of cow-bells and the song of the bagpipes. It seems nothing has been changed the last few hundred years.

A very great attraction here is the Illinden Festival (first Sunday of August) with the competition for the best bagpipe player. There you can enjoy the famous and very delicious lamb barbecue in Rhodopean style called “Cheverme”. You can also buy a bagpipe from the best bagpipe’s masters.
