The historical museum in Razgrad is the one of the oldest cultural-educational institutes. Not only in the city but in the country. The foundation of museum work was placed by Ananie Javashov - a teacher and inspector in natural science in Razgrad only nine years after the Liberation of Bulgaria from centuries of Ottoman rule.
During the summer in 1887 he carried out brief excavations in the western part of Abritus.
In 1922 patriotic citizens founded the Razgrad Archaeological Society, which set itself the task of tracing . collecting and studying material for the history and cultural heritage of the Razgrad Region from Antiquity up to the recent past.
A Javashov was elected its Chairman, a position he held to his death in 1934.
