The new ever tourist guidebook for the Eastern Rhodopes will be presented on 16 February, the opening day of the 29th international tourist fair HOLIDAY & SPA EXPO in Sofia.
The guide is funded by the Bulgarian-Dutch project New Thracian Gold (NTG), which aims to encourage sustainable development in the Eastern Rhodopes. The Minister of Economy, Energy and Tourism, Traicho Traikov, and the Deputy Ambassador of the Netherlands Riny Bus are expected to participate in the press conference. They will receive the first Bulgarian-language and English-language copy of the guide.
The visitors of the EXPO will have the opportunity to buy the Eastern Rhodopes guide at a special price from the NTG stand in Hall 2 of Inter Expo Center.
The guidebook presents the cultural, historical and natural attractions of the Eastern Rhodopes with detailed text and photos. It also offers a trove of practical information on active recreation, selected hotels, B&Bs and restaurants, transport links and tourist information centers. The prize-winning photo and the itinerary which won the 2011 NTG contest "The Eastern Rhodopes: taste the wild nature" are also included.
The guidebook is published in two separate versions: Bulgarian and English. Its author is Georgi Palahutev, a passionate traveler and photographer.
The new guidebook to Eastern Rhodopes is published one year after the New Thracian Gold put out a tourist map of the region. The two editions make a perfect tool to guide tourists along the cultural and natural highlights of this amazing region. New Thracian Gold further continues its tourism promotion as it is producing now a specialised field guide for nature tourists. This Crossbill Guide to the Eastern Rhodopes (in English) will be published in 2013.
The project New Thracian Gold participates for the third time in HOLIDAY & SPA EXPO.
The visitors to the project stand in Hall 2 of the Inter Expo Center can also buy the NTG tourist map at a discounted price, get information about the region and the opportunities for exploring it, meet local tourist entrepreneurs, sign up for tours and participate in a lottery.
The press conference on the guidebook is on 16 February 2012, Thursday, 12 am in Rodopi Hall in IEC, Inter EXPO Center, Sofia, 147 Tsarigradsko Chaussee Blvd.
New Thracian Gold is a five-year project (2009-2014) for the sustainable development of the Eastern Rhodopes executed by the Dutch organizations ARK and Avalon, which have extensive international experience in projects for environmental protection and organic farming. The project is financed by Dutch Postcode Lottery, the biggest charity lottery in the country, which supports 80 non-governmental organizations working for a fairer, greener world.
New Thracian Gold is the unique project with an integrated approach combining the work on three components: wildlife, organic farming and ecotourism. Improving wildlife and biodiversity of the Eastern Rhodopes through rewilding the characteristic mosaic landscape. Rewilding through reintroduction of large herbivores like tarpans, shorthorn-cattle, red deer etc. Eastern Rhodopes have all the prerequisites to become a center for ecotourism - a stunning nature, huge variety of flora and fauna, rich cultural heritage. Combined with organic farming it not only provides quality food, but it creates jobs, raises living standards of local people and reduces the depopulation of the area.
