First Museum of Asian and African Art in Bulgaria

Tryavna, Northern Bulgaria, September 25 - Bulgaria's first museum of Asian and African Art was officially opened on Saturday in Tryavna.The exhibition displays more than 300 works of art of Tibet, Nepal, China, India, Japan, Sri Lanka and Bali and was donated by Bulgarian sculptor Zlatko Paunov born in Tryavna and now living in New York.

According to Prof. Alexander Fedotov, Deputy Rector of SofiaUniversity, the collection is unique not only for Bulgaria, but for Eastern Europe as well.

The exhibition has been arranged in the building of the town baths, reconstructed into a museum with funds under the Beautiful Bulgaria programme of the UNDP and the Social Policy Ministry.
