Greeks Rank First in Holidaying Here

The greatest is the number of Greek tourists in Bulgarian resorts. Last year their number reached 707 000. The number of Macedonian tourists in 2004 was 656 000.

Over 4 million foreign tourists holidayed in Bulgaria last year, according to data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), which is by 13.6 % more than the number of tourists, who visited this country in 2003. This country was visited by 565 000 tourists from Germany, 259 000 English tourists and 121 000 Russians.

Foreign tourists mostly prefer lodging in hotels and the Bulgarians - in chalets and cottages. About 7 million foreigners visited this country in 2004, according to data of the NSI. In addition to tourists, the number of foreigners who go on business trips to Bulgaria has also increased. The number of business trips to Bulgaria in 2004 was 272 000, which is an increase by 26 %. The largest is the increase in the number of the businesspeople from Ireland - by 81.6 %, the businesspeople from Great Britain follow by 60.5 % and the increase in the number of Portuguese business-tourists to Bulgaria is by 60 %.

Bulgarians travel abroad more and more often. The visits of Bulgarians abroad in 2004 were 3,882 million, which is an increase by 14.1 %. Bulgarians mostly travel abroad in the period July-October, more and more often to the EU member states. The business-trips of Bulgarian citizens abroad totaled 2,2 million in 2004, which is twice as much as than the number of the holiday trips of Bulgarian tourists abroad. In Bulgaria the number of hotels, motels, chalets and other accommodation facilities in Bulgaria is 1 306. Over one year their number increased by 247 or 23.3 %. The increase in the number of hotels is the largest - 192 in a year time. More than half of them are at the seaside.
