Bulgaria, US to discuss military bases

Date: 30.09.2005

Bulgaria and the United States will meet Tuesday to discuss the placing of American military bases along Bulgaria's coastline, as announced Tuesday.

The meeting in Sofia will be attended by Bulgaria's Ambassador to NATO Lyubomir Ivanov and the States' Senior Adviser for Security Negotiations and Agreements Robert Loftis.

The range in Novo Selo, the military airstrip in Bezmer and the port of Burgas are the three locations on the southern shore of Bulgaria's Black Sea to be discussed during the talks. Bulgarian bTV announced.

US experts consider Burgas port as a strategic site because of its location that will eventually become a natural border of the EU, and thus would be very useful for transporting military technology.

Burgas is the second largest city along the seaside of Bulgaria, and a much visited tourist destination.
