Bulgaria tightens anti-terror measures

Date: 28.09.2005

By December this year Bulgarian government will table additional security measures to prevent possible terrorism threats in the country.

At the first meeting of the Security Council at the new Cabinet, held on Tuesday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev heard the reports of the national anti-crime and the military information services and their assessment on the current national security.

It was concluded that terrorism threats are on the rise globally and Bulgaria should also be on higher alert and adopt measures of terror prevention. Meanwhile, the militaries informed the premier that the country faces now less imminent military threats.

In a review of the crime situation in the country, the Security Council pointed that a fourth of all crimes nationwide are committed on the territory of capital Sofia.
