Bulgaria's administration neglects foreign languages

Date: 17.10.2005

Only about 2% of Bulgaria's state administration are studying foreign languages, it emerged on Monday.

The state administration minister revealed that in some municipalities there was not a single employee speaking any foreign languages.

Workers will have to be trained in languages, computers and ethics, Minister Nikolay Vassilev has said.

He was speaking at the opening of a conference on human recourses in the state administration.

Earlier in October, it was decided to cut the number of state employees by 10%.

The Bulgarian state administration has been criticized for years for its bureaucratic ways and inefficiency.
