Balkan youth get prepared for EU realities

Date: 22.10.2005

Young people are the future leaders and their voice does find a forum to hear to within the framework of the Balkan Parliament.

Talking to Bulgarian National Radio, a spokesperson of the student-founded Balkan Parliament said that the forum has brought a great variety of young people, from different parts of Europe - "people that are interested in the future of this region."

The Balkan Parliament was founded in 2001 by students at the American University in Bulgaria, and has soon gained the prestige of an international conference, giving the floor predominantly to the youth.

This year's edition, held for one week in Blagoevgrad, has run under the heading "European Integration - reality or dream of the Balkans."

Within the forum, meetings and lectures with prominent Bulgarian politicians and experts were also included.

Former Foreign Minister Solomon Passy, who is currently chairing the parliamentary commission on foreign policy, also met with the Balkan Parliamentarians and appraised their work.
