Brussels nods tender papers on Lyulin highway supervision

Date: 22.10.2005

The European Commission has approved the tender paperwork for the construction supervision of Lyulin Highway.

Bulgaria's Road Authority will commence receiving application forms once the tender notice is published on the web site of the EC, the Regional Development Ministry informed.

Seventy companies have already bought application paperwork to bid at the international auction for the construction of the key road-belt to embrace capital Sofia. After an extension, the deadline for lodging offers is October 26.

The project for the construction of 19-km highway is part of the Trans-European transport corridor No.4 spanning on Bulgarian territory the cities of Vidin and Sofia with the Kulata border checkpoint on the north-south axis.

Its cost is estimated at EUR 148.45 M, including EUR 111.338 M ISPA funds and EUR 37.112 co-funding by Bulgaria.

The Lyulin Highway is anticipated also as an alternative to resolve one of gravest problems of the traffic in the 2-million capital city, which in many parts runs through densely populated Sofia neighbourhoods.
