Farmer collects the carts of Sali Yashar

Date: 11.11.2005

In his farm in the village of Krassen farmer Alexi Denev has collected the painted carts of Sali Yashar - the famous character from Yovkov's story entitled The Song of the Wheels. In his open air museum Denev has arranged coppers, bushels, yokes, a wooden plough and an earthen jug. The carts were decorated by an unknown master at the beginning of the last century.

Now the local people repair the school where once Yovkov was a teacher. Painter Stoyan Todorov restores the big portrait of the writer which decorates the school's entrance lobby. The building of the former town-hall is refurbished too.

Many of the prototypes of Yovkov's characters have once lived in the village of Krassen. Among them are charming Albena from the story of the same title and her lover. The real name of the beautiful adulteress was Yana and she was convicted to prison by the then mayor Alexi Shterev.
