Oman's sultan donates EUR 390,000 to Bulgaria

His Majesty Qaboos bin Said al-Said, Sultan of Oman has donated EUR 390,000 to Bulgaria for the reconstruction of the historical Tombul mosque in Shumen.

Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev will receive the donation by the Sultan's ambassador to Bulgaria, who is seated in Vienna. The Sultan's honorary consul in Bulgaria Stoyan Denchev will also witness the signing.

Tombul mosque is the second biggest temple on the Balkan Peninsula. It received its name by the shape of its dome. The temple was built in 1744 and it is situated in the city of Shumen in North-eastern Bulgaria, that was founded more than 3,200 years ago.

Oman's economy minister, had been visited the mosque and then informed Sultan Qaboos about its poor condition.

The Sultan is said to be a close friend to Bulgaria's outgoing Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg.
