Eurocopter starts two plants in Bulgaria

Date: 10.12.2005

The German-French consortium Eurocopter will create about a thousand jobs by starting two plants in Bulgaria, according to Minister of Energy and Economy Rumen Ovcharov. Eurocopter will invest in the chemical industry as well and in the production and processing of aluminium products. The investments are part of the offset agreement that accompanied the purchase deal for 18 helicopters from the European helicopter giant. According to the agreement, the consortium will invest 360 million euro in exchange for the 358 million euro Bulgaria paid for the helicopters. Bulgaria bought 12 Cougars and six Panthers. The Air Forces and the Navy will use the helicopters.

"The first three helicopters will be delivered in August and December 2006," said Olivier Michelon, Vice President of Eurocopter.

The offset programme will run for ten years, according to the Ministry. Some of the money will be invested in maintenance of machines in Bulgarian plants. Besides Eurocopter will render scholarships for excellent Bulgarian students in the sphere of aeronautics and aviation engineering, according to Olivier Michelon. They will be able to study in Germany, France and Spain.

Eurocopter also promised to create export channels for Bulgarian products for all over the world.
