Czech parliament ratifies Bulgaria's accession treaty

Date: 10.12.2005

The lower chamber of the Czech parliament ratified on a second reading Bulgaria and Romania's EU accession treaties. This development concludes the ratification procedure in the country. The announcement came yesterday from the office of European Integration Minister Meglena Kouneva.
The document has been approved with a complete majority. Of the 155 members of parliament present, 155 voted in favour. In this way the Czech Republic has become the first EU member state with a two-chamber approval procedure to accept Bulgaria's accession treaty.

So far Bulgaria and Romania's accession treaties have been ratified by six other countries - Slovakia, Slovenia, Hungary, Greece, Cyprus and Estonia.
