Bulgaria aims at safer roads

Date: 22.12.2005

Bulgaria has launched a national charter for safer roads on Wednesday.

Sofia mayor Boyko Borissov signed the charter at the capital's Orlov Most (Eagles Bridge), drawn by local insurance company Bulstrad.

A big traffic-light shaped cake was cut for all the celebrities who joined the mayor and put their signature in agreement with the charter. Actress Anya Pencheva, Valentin Mihov head of the Bulgarian Professional Football League, and automobile racer Yasen Popov were among the first to sign the promise for better roads.

There were no children among the pedestrians killed on the roads of Bulgaria during 2005, Rumen Yanchev, head of "Bulstrad" said, sharing his hope that this was a good sign for the increasing awareness of the local drivers.
