Bulgaria Launches 3rd GSM Operator

Date: 05.11.2005

Vivatel mobile operator activated its network Saturday. The company pledged to shake up the Bulgarian mobile market, although not introducing any dramatic price cuts. Vivatel kicked in with an offer for 0.37 lev per minute for prepaid calls (0.44 with value added tax).

The operator will refund all bills accumulated until January 6 on the next day. Prepaid calls will cost 0.37 levs per minute, or about 0.19 euros. The business package will cost 15 levs (approximately 8 euros) and will give 100 minutes of free calls within the Vivatel network and to fixed-lines. Vivatel is owned by former state telecom BTC, which was sold to Vienna-registered Viva Ventures. The company is owned by Advent International, based in Boston.
