Bulgaria starts planning budget 2007

Date: 31.01.2006

Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev announced that Bulgaria would launch the budget procedure for 2007 in the following week.

Socialist leader Sttanishev announced the Cabinet's decision after the governmental meeting at the mountain resort in Borovets that took place Saturday. The leaders of the other two parties from the ruling coalition - Simeon II National Movement's Simeon Saxe-Coburg and ethnic Movement for Rights and Freedoms' Ahmed Dogan also attended the meeting that took place behind closed doors. The budget should provide for continuing the policy of macroeconomical stability, and for allowing Bulgaria to put away 1% of the GDP for EU membership Stanishev said.

Starting to prepare next year's budget so early in the year is a testimony to the government's stability, Stanishev said for private Darik radio.

The Prime minister also added that Bulgaria's main goal in the fight against crime should be to show concrete results to the EU in February, when the country's readiness to join the Union will be assessed.
