Bulgaria develops a crime information system

Date: 31.01.2006

A "mini" information system developed between the Interior Ministry, the Prosecution Office and the National Investigation Service will be launched in the beginning of next week, the Supreme Prosecution Office of Cassation said Saturday. The system was developed as a result of the decision taken by the leaderships of the three institutions on September 10, 2005, for exchange of electronic information on concrete criminal cases for boosting efficiency in the fight against organised crime, corruption, human and drug trafficking and other crimes of major public significance.

Initially, the system will include the most important pre-trial procedures and there will be an opportunity to observe and control the movement of these cases at any time, from the moment of their opening to that of their filing with charges at court. This system will shorten the time for investigation and resolution of cases, will provide the opportunity for strict accountability of actions of Interior Ministry authorities and investigation, as well as improve interaction between the three institutions.

The system lays the foundations of the development of the complete information system linking these three authorities and creates the main conditions for the introduction of a Standard Information System against crime between all law enforcement authorities on criminal cases.
