Bulgaria's Business Reaches out to Prosecutors in Corruption Combat

Date: 26.10.2006

The Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF), one of the most influential communities in the country, reiterated calls for pooling the state and private sector efforts in a clampdown on corruption.

At a working breakfast with senior prosecutor Boris Velchev, the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF) singled out e-government introduction, bank transfer payments and training programs as top priorities.

The discussion was joined by the Ambassador of Finland, which holds the current presidency of the European Union, as well as a diplomat from the UK Embassy in Sofia.

"We should have zero tolerance to corruption practices in all its forms - both low-level and high-level. Nobody should feel untouchable," chief prosecutor Boris Velchev commented.

"Our aim, as businessmen, is not only to make profits, but to make it transparently. This is when all loopholes for corruption practices will be wiped out," BBLF Chairman Maxim Behar said.

Maxim Behar handed to Boris Velchev a copy of BBLF Business Ethics Standard, which has been adopted by 1,400 companies already.
