Bulgaria Splurges BGN 3 M on EU Entry Festivities

Bulgaria will spend more than BGN 3 M for the celebrations of the country's EU entry on January 1, 2007.

The Cabinet decided to spare BGN 2.5 M from the state budget for 2006 on the occasion and additional BGN 735,000 from the 2007 budget.

The country will mark the EU entry with 250 events at home and abroad, which will include concerts, art and culinary exhibitions and light shows. The "First European Day" will be proclaimed in all of the 28 main district towns.

Bulgarian National bank will release on the market a special memorial coin.

The country, together with Romania will organize a huge concert in Prague. In Paris will be organized a week of the Bulgarian cinema and in the UK will be held a conference, devoted to John Atanassov, the inventor of the computer.
