The Economist: 4.5% GDP growth

Date: 25.03.2006

The economic growth in Bulgaria in 2006 will be 4.5%, shows the forecast of The Economist, reported at the 6th Round Table, organized by the magazine with the Bulgarian government. The prognosis of the Bulgarian Agency for Economic Analyses and Forecast is for a 5.5-% GDP growth.

"The economic and political development of Bulgaria has been stable for the last couple of years," said Sergei Stanishev, Bulgarian Prime Minister.

"The steady economic growth of 5.8% in 2005 confirms this fact. We understand the desire of the European Commission to be critical about the ongoing reforms in Bulgaria and show the other countries that Bulgaria's accession to the EU will not be a charity act. Bulgaria will join the Union as a country that will guarantee the stability on the Balkans," Stanishev said further.
