Bulgaria last in Europe in work efficiency

Date: 26.03.2006

Bulgaria is occupying the last place in work efficiency among the countries EU members and applicants.

Bulgaria is producing just 31.8% from the average for the union, the deputy chair of the Bulgarian Industry Chamber Georgi Shivarov explained to the participants in a conference dedicated to the Bulgarian industry.

Thus Bulgaria is way behind Turkey and Romania. The work efficiency in Bulgaria's southern neighbour is nearly 42% from the average level in Europe and in Romania it is nearly 36%.

Bulgaria is also in the back of the net monthly salary per capita with an average salary EUR 145. It is also lagging behind in the level of the innovations and competitiveness.

Despite the negative results, over the last five years there has been a considerable growth in the industry produce, Deputy Economy and Energy Minister Lachezar Borissov explained. In 2005 there has been a growth of 7.9% in the industry.
