ZDF to shoot a film in Sofia

Date: 27.03.2006

German's state television ZDF has undertaken a serious offensive for the first leg of the UEFA Cup 1/4-finals Levski-Schalke to be played in Sofia. A ZDF special team will shoot a film about Sofia and about the decisive UEFA clash Levski-Schalke. Schalke 04 are the only German team left at the European football tournament. ZDF won the battle with private DSF for the TV rights.

The fact that ZDF obtained the TV rights was extremely favorable for Levski, as more money will enter Levski's fund.

The sum may reach 500,000 euros, experts reckon.

At present, ZDF is fervently preparing its visit to Bulgaria. Two ZDF representatives are arriving in Sofia today to negotiate the signal transmission with the Bulgarian television, which will obtain the TV rights to broadcast the match. It is not clear yet which television will win the TV rights. The Bulgarian National Television (BNT) reacted sharply and gave an ultimatum to Sport 5, which represents Levski.

"Levski have made an unbelievable breakthrough on the scene of football Europe. The interest to this match in Germany is huge and we did our best to broadcast it," ZDF sources commented.

So far, a total of 30 German journalists have been accredited for the first leg, Levski officials informed.
