Bulgaria tightens financial control on hospitals

Date: 29.03.2006

State-funded hospitals in Bulgaria will be audited every month, Health Minister Radoslav Gajdarski announced.

The stricter control will start as of Monday, he told journalists while on a visit to Varna.

The minister issued an order for officials of regional health centers and regional health insurance funds to carry out monthly checks on the usage of clinical paths and the way of medicine expenditure.

Should any violations are found, sanctions will be tough, Gajdarski warned.

Also on Sunday it emerged that the Health Ministry plans to submit the new national health strategy for public discussion as soon as in the middle of April.
