Nu Image, Bulgarian Theatre Academy to work together

Date: 31.03.2006

Bulgaria's National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts (NATFA) is launching a program of cooperation with Sofia-based office of US moviemaker Nu Image, the two institutions announced Tuesday.

During an open meeting with students and professors at NATFA, David Varod, head of Nu Image explained the company's expansion plans and answered to questions about future internships.

Nu Image will cover the costs for the students' final projects, Varod explained, underlining several times that although the negotiations with NATFA dean Stanislav Semerdzhiev were still under way, one thing was for sure, and that was the company's determination to have students prepare their projects for free. Students will also be appointed for internships with Nu Image, and they'd have the chance of working on international productions. Actors will also benefit from the English classes, organized by the company, Varod explained, and this will make it easier for them to undertake more parts in foreign productions. Currently there are about 200 Bulgarian actors employed by Nu Image. About 95% of the employees of the company are Bulgarians, Varod added.

Apart from its own productions, Nu Image, will try to accommodate local ideas and make it easier for Bulgarian movie makers to film their projects. Varod promised discounts for local productions. Boyana will be a warm house for productions, he explained. Apart from filming grounds, the studio will also be able to help with the distribution, he added.

Large investments will also be made in the sphere of post-production, Varod vowed, explaining that he expected Nu Image to employ at least 400 people for this sector only. To that effect the company is planning to buy 10 new Avid editing stations. Nu Image will also develop cartoon production - an area that still hasn't been explored by the company.
