Celebs to lobby for Bulgaria's Olympic bid

Date: 20.04.2006

Sport celebrities, including ice-skating world champs Denkova and Staviski, joined Bulgaria's campaign to host the 2014 Olympics.

A total of six top athletes were introduced Tuesday as ambassadors of the Bulgarian bid.

Silver and bronze Olympic medallist Evgenia Radanova, slalom racer Petar Popangelov, European biathlon champion Pavlina Filipova, and Alexandra Zhekova - Europe's snowboard leader in border cross - will promote Bulgaria as an eligible spot for the Olympic event.

"Let's Do It Together" was the motto that brought together Tuesday the athletes and sport administrators, involved in the campaigning.

"Hosting of the winter Olympic Games is a dream of all Bulgarian sportspersons," Stefka Kostadinova, head of the country's Olympic Committee, said.

Sofia's mayor Boyko Borissov was also present at Tuesday's news conference to confirm the capital city's commitment to the campaign.
