Twenty-eight ancient mounds saved

Date: 29.04.2006

The municipal council of Pernik (southern Bulgaria) froze the project envisaging the creation of a stone quarry at the foot of the Viskyar Mountain where 28 ancient mounds lie.

"I'm worried over the possible building of a quarry in this locality," said Dobri Mitev, head of the municipal council. The councillors insist on a written stand of the experts from the Pernik Museum of History.

The whole locality is full of mounds, tombs and ancient temples which date back to the period between the pre-historic era and late Middle Ages.
