Bulgaria Marks 50 Years Since Joining UNESCO

Date: 29.05.2006

It’s 50 years since the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria on UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) was established. It is an interdepartmental institution, which provides the link and coordinates the cooperation between the Bulgaria state, public and non-governmental organizations and one of the UN’s most prestigious specialized organizations, the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry’s press office announced.

Established only after seven years after Bulgaria joined UNESCO, the Commission managed to achieve a constant and close cooperation with it and to create a positive image of the country by means of actively participating in all spheres of work of the organization.

Bulgaria received recognition in 1985, when Sofia was among three capital cities, which were chosen to host a session of UNESCO’s General Conference. At present, Bulgarian educational scientific and cultural institutions, experts and public organizations participate actively in programs and projects under UNESCO.
