Bulgarian Church to Be Built in Milan

Date: 01.06.2006

Pope Benedict VI gave his approval for the construction of Bulgarian church

Bulgarian Orthodox church will be erected in the hub of Milan, Italy. The building to house the Bulgarian church will be provided by virtue of the chairman of Onlus "Per Vetren" foundation, Ezio Cleri as he obtained the permission for the construction of the Bulgarian church during the visit of the official Bulgarian delegation to the Vatican on May 24 - the Day of Bulgarian Learning and Culture and the Slavonic Script and the meeting with Pope Benedict. The negotiations on the construction of the church were held with Cardinal Tettamanzi, who together with Ezio Cleri came to the conclusion that the big Bulgarian community in Milan should have their own Orthodox church. Currently, over 20,000 Bulgaria live in Milan. Again through the mediation of Ezio Cleri, in 2001 Cardinal Cassidy ordered the opening of a Bulgarian Orthodox church in Rome.

"The Bulgarian Orthodox church takes a worthy place in Italy," great friend of Bulgaria Ezio Cleri reckons.

According to Cleri and his friends from Bulgaria, the generosity of the Vatican is due to the ideas of late Pope John Paul II for unity of Christianity.
