The Church Is Built on a Holy Ground

Date: 28.06.2006

From the bottom of my heart I want to invite everybody at the inauguration of the church St. Vissarion of Smolyan. No matter if they live in the Rodopa Mountains region or not, or if they are Christians, Muslims or atheists, everybody is invited. I really hope that this event will be remembered for a long time because in the hard times we live, the construction of such a church is really something of great importance to the whole Rodopa region and for Bulgaria as a whole.

The church itself is built on a holy ground - near the old cemetery of Smolyan where once there was a chapel. The chapel, which was 400-year-old and part of the cemetery were partially destroyed in the 80s.

The church is almost ready. We only have to put the finishing touch. I am confident that everything will be ready for the inauguration day - July 2, 2006.
