Tsunami of Mosquitoes

Date: 28.07.2006
Mosquitoes hit like tsunami Bulgaria's sea resorts. Huge swarms float from Varna in the north to Tsarevo in the far south of the Black Sea coast. Our vacation has turned into a nightmare, complain tourists from the southern resorts of Slanchev Briag, Ravda and Primorsko. Owners of seashore pubs are in panic because mosquitoes chase away their clients. In most of the cafes and pubs waiters welcome guests with anti-mosquito sprays and ointment. Pharmacies have sold out all supplies with anti-insect products. We have not seen such a disaster for twenty years, resort town mayors say. The invasion of mosquitoes is a result of the torrent rains and floods in the recent month. Local authorities cannot manage to spray pesticides over the affected areas in time. Mosquitoes bear stomach infections. People suffering from allergies are most in danger as they may fall into allergic shocks, doctors warn.
