Housewives Compete in Yoghurt Making

Date: 29.07.2006

Dozens of housewives from the town of Razgrad will vie for medals in a contest for home made yoghurt. Forty-two women and one man will demonstrate their culinary skills in a contest organized during the only Bulgarian festival, dedicated to Bacillus Bulgaricus, which kicked off yesterday. The cooks will compete in salad and dessert making; family teams will prepare "tarator" - cold yoghurt and chopped cucumbers soup.

Fathers, mothers and children equipped with scoops, knives and pots will vie in preparing the summer soup within strictly fixed intervals of time.

Folklore ensembles from four continents and two delegations from Razgrad's twin towns in Ireland and Germany will join the festival. The guests of the festival can take part in dozens of open workshops in weaving and pottery with the assistance of experienced craft masters.
