Joint Tomb of Tribal Man, Horse Discovered in Bulgaria

Date: 30.07.2006

Bulgarian archaeologists have discovered a stunning tomb of a pecheneg, a semi-nomadic tribe of Central Asia who were assimilated partly by the Bulgarians during the XII century.

The remains of the man and a horse, his head and legs, is what was found in the tomb, located near the village of Bozhurets in the Black Sea region of Kavarna.

Archaeologists say the burial dates back to the first half of the IX century and resembles similar ceremonies in Southern Russia , Ukraine, Moldova and Romania.

It is believed that the buried man was an invader, one of those who chased away or killed the local population.
