Unique Dagger Found During Excavations

Date: 09.08.2006

"A unique gold dagger was found near the central Bulgarian village of Dabene near Karlovo," said Bozhidar Dimitrov, Head of the Bulgarian National Museum of History. "The dagger has no analogue even among the findings of ancient Troy,".

Except the dagger some 16 000 gold pieces have been found during the excavation. Restorers have already managed to piece together several necklaces. The treasures date back to the III millennium A.D.

The dagger is perfectly preserved. According to Bozhidar Dimitrov, it is symbol of the Priest King. The Karlovo treasure is about 1000 years newer than the Varna treasure, the oldest found on the Balkans. However, it proves the link between the two civilizations. The sensational dagger was made of gold and platinum alloy. It is extremely delicate and is still sharp. Besides, there are no signs of decay although it has been buried for millennia.
