Orient Express Ticket Costs about 8 000 Euro

Date: 06.09.2006

The deluxe train with only 85 passengers passes through Bulgaria

Europe's fancy - Orient Express passed via Rousse on the Danube yesterday on its way to Turkey.  The train arrived in the Bulgarian town on the Danube at 11.57 h, seven minutes late. It travels from Paris to Istanbul. Fifteen finely furnished carriages transport 85 affluent passengers from Western Europe, Australia and other parts of the world who, while on board live in retro luxury and tasty food, absorbed in the ambience and characters of Agatha Christie. A ticket costs 6300 euro. Those who would like to travel in a deluxe single compartment pay additional 1 360 euro.

Money, though, is not the only condition for the realization of the romantic journey with Orient Express, passengers say. The applicants have to pass a thorough examination and selection conducted by a special tourist agency that organizes this journey once a year.

French Colette Guechet (52) and her husband have for long dreamt of this journey. "I like a lot your country, although we do not see much from here," Colette says.

From Rousse, Orient Express heads for Varna and then sets off for Istanbul.
