Bulgaria's Champions Fear Nobody

Date: 14.09.2006

In his rubric "Contra" of the Catalunyan newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, Hristo Stoichkov makes comments every Tuesday. Of course, Stoichkov's latest comment is on Levski and the historical clash of Bulgaria's Blue team and Barcelona in the Champions League.Being the coach of Bulgaria's national football team, I find it very hard to analyze Barcelona's opponent - the team of Levski. I know this team exceptionally well. Eight of Levski players are Bulgaria's internationals. I would not like to say anything about them and their performance, because of the response of my words in Bulgaria. All my words now will be in the Bulgarian media tomorrow. The problem is that my words are sometimes interpreted in a way I don't like at all. I would like to explain why. If I, for example, make a remark on Levski, it will be interpreted that I praise Barcelona. This explains why I turned down any comments on questions connected with the match for the press in Barcelona. The situation has become very delicate since I headed Bulgaria's national team.

Levski is a great team, which has not found its place in the Champions League by accident. Levski have not been granted anything and that's why Bulgaria's Blue team must not be underestimated. Levski footballers have the confidence of winners. They show iron will on the field. Levski arrived to Camp Nou without fearing Europe's Champion.

I will personally be at Camp Nou to watch Levski performance. I guess we shall become witnesses of one red-blue victory. It will be logical that Europe's Champion wins the match. At present, Rijkaard's footballers show brilliant performance. Any club would find it absolutely hard to play vs. Barcelona.

I would like to congratulate Barcelona's President Joan Laporta for the contract with UNICEF. Barcelona will send messages for solidarity to the whole world with their jerseys. Thus, thousands of children will learn that Barcelona care about them.
