Bulgarian Political Offensive in Brussels

Date: 20.09.2006

Brussels was literally "occupied" by Bulgarian politicians yesterday. Vice-PM and Foreign Minister Ivailo Kalfin heads a big Bulgarian delegation which will attend  the last sitting of the Bulgaria-EU joint parliamentary committee. He is accompanied by Minister of European Affairs Meglena Kuneva, Minister of Interior Roumen Petkov and Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Nihat Kabil.

The report of the European Commission dated May 16 criticized particularly the sectors of agriculture and home affairs. The sitting of the joint committee is dedicated to Bulgaria's progress in the fulfillment of the country's pre-accession commitments to the EU. It's the last sitting of the Committee before  the EC's monitoring report on September 26 and Bulgaria's targeted EU entry on January 1, 2007.
