Bulgaria's Traffic Patrols Slacking on the Job

Date: 04.11.2006

Bulgaria's Interior Ministry has found out that many of the traffic police patrolling officers are slackers, Darik News reported.

Subjected to checks themselves, the officers failed miserably, proving that derelictions are a mass phenomenon among them. The check into the work of 28 patrols located along Bulgaria's bigger highways showed that officers are not as alert of speeding cars as they should be, and they overlook a series of other violations.

Some of the officers were not even at their post, resting in nearby cafes, while the patrol car was parked out front.

Most of those who were actually working failed to note drivers without seatbelts, or those who use their cell-phone without a hands-free option while at the wheel, and disregarded blatant road violations.
