Only 5% of Seaside Constructions in Bulgaria Illegal

Date: 12.11.2006

No more than 5% of the constructions at Bulgaria's seaside are illegal, Regional Development Vice Minister Savin Kovachev has announced.

He explained that 10% to 15% of the illegal buildings have already been taken down, and there are court proceedings regarding the rest, Kovachev said before Parliament on Friday.

MPs are now voting on the law regarding building at the seaside, with the assurance that this new law wouldn't lead to the demolishment of hotels and buildings that were in line with the old one.

The new bill will state exactly how much territory enters in the Black Sea cost in Bulgaria, and how much of it is beaches. The MPs will also determine the jurisdiction of local authorities.
