Bulgaria's Stonehenge to be Reconstructed

Bulgaria's south municipality of Harmanli won the Via Diagonalis and the Bulgarian Stonehenge project.

Finance on the project comes from the PHARE program Trans border cooperation between Bulgaria and Greece.

The project amounts to EUR 182, 709, spokesman of the municipality administration. said.

Money on the project will be allocated on archeological excavations, restoration and conservation of the Roman road near Ovcharovo village and Roman station near Izvorovo village, as well as the megalith monuments in Cherepovo.

The megalith monuments in Cherepovo are known as Bulgaria's Stonehenge.

The project should be finished within 18 months. Its aim is to create an attractive culture and tourist destination that will connect Bulgaria's Harmanli and Greece's Trigono.

It is expected that the new tourist site will attract about 1500 tourists annually.
