Bulgaria Hardest Hit by Danube Slick

Date: 16.12.2006

Bulgaria is the hardest hit country from the huge oil slick that polluted the Danube river at the end of September, a deputy environment minister told Darik News.

Bulgaria and Romania made a resolute move for receiving compensations from Serbia at a meeting of high-ranking officials from the Environment Ministries of the three countries in Vienna, Deputy Minister Lyubka Kachakova said.

Kachakova, who represented Bulgaria at the talks, said the pollution from the Serbian oil refinery at Prahovo port cost Bulgaria BGN 1,500,000 already.

Romania set the cost for cleaning the polluted area on its territory at EUR 300,000.
