Discovery shoots two films about Bulgarian treasures

Date: 26.02.2007

The world famous Discovery channel will shoot two one-hour documentaries, dedicated mainly to the ancient Thracian fortress of Perperikon and telling about the life of the ancient Thracians, archaeologist Prof. Ovcharov said. The films will be aired within a year. They will be produced by director Michael Moore who was in Bulgaria a week ago. Scientists announced that at Perperikon they discovered a missing link in Thracian history.

During the so-called "dark centuries", when Mycenae and Troy were dying away, in Perperikon the Thracian civilization was flourishing. The Thracians played games based on knowledge of astrology and fortune-telling, similar to those played in Egypt.

They had a metallurgical center as well as impressive traditions in pottery-making. There are data that they used to make rich offerings to their gods - horses, calves and pigs.
