Worldwide campaign for Bulgarian beauty spots' conservation

Date: 28.02.2007

The global environmental conservation organization WWF starts a worldwide campaign for protecting Bulgaria's beauty spots and sights, the association announced.

In the next few weeks activists are to send e-messages to the Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev and the Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev, calling for bans on the destructive activities in the most beautiful areas.

The organization's members will mention the fact that many hotels, resorts and private residences are being built although their construction is against the national legislation and legal regulations.

The activists will give as examples the hotel complex Varvara, built in the Natural Park of Strandzha and the erasure of the largest beach at the Bulgaria's seaside "Kamchiiski Sands", which is to be overbuilt by an Austrian investor.
