Date: 30.03.2007

World Bank (WB) granted Bulgaria’s Prosecution $475 000 to aid the country in the fight against corruption.

Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev and WB country director for Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia Anand Seth signed an agreement for free funding to be provided by the WB.

Funds come from the WB's Institutional Development Fund (IDF). The money will be utilised within the period of three years and Prosecution will provide co-funding of at least $50 000.

The project envisages the provision of technical support to Prosecution.

Qualification initiatives in the sphere as well as improving the system of trial monitoring and management are to be included in the programme. An automatic system will screen the assets of magistrates.
