Sofia Airport records BGN 28,7 M profit in 2006

Date: 30.03.2007

The international airport in Bulgarian capital Sofia reported a profit of BGN 28,7 M, data from the country's Transport Ministry showed.

The total profit of Bulgaria's airports rose by nearly 29% year-on-year to BGN 46,2 M. The country's biggest three airports are in Sofia and the Black Sea ports of Varna and Burgas.

Bulgaria's ports also reported a profit last year - BGN 7,6 M, nearly double compared to 2005.

But the railways remain a big drain, with the passenger, freight and infrastructure operators reporting a combined loss of BGN 86,3 M, some BGN 33,5 M less than a year earlier.

The ministry began relinquishing control over key transport infrastructure nodes to concessionaires last year and will continue the process this year, estimating private investment of EUR 60 M this year.

Bulgaria's transport ministry plans to invest EUR 4,7 B in transport infrastructure until 2015.
