Artists build open-air art installation of emblematic Sofia buildings

Date: 31.10.2007

The garden in front of the National Theatre Ivan Vazov in Sofia became even more colourful in the autumn with the new art installation "People and the city" on Monday afternoon.

The picturesque exhibition represents the city architecture of Sofia through time - from the oldest preserved building, the St. George Rhotonda from the 4th century, to the first energy-independent and energy-saving complex.

The installation includes nine scale models of emblematic for Sofia buildings, turned into art objects in the style of the period they were build in.

In the centre of the scale models, the artists Yulia Medichkova and Todor Stoynov have put white linens and floodlights, so that everyone who stands in the way of the light can see his or her projection on the façade of the scale model and can outline the shadow silhouette with a permanent marker.

The art installation closes on Tuesday evening. It was made possible with the help of Winslow Developments.

Yulia Medichkova chose the buildings, which were included, and artist Todor Staykov made the scale models.
