Bulgaria's richest man buys deserted village

Bulgaria's richest businessman Vassil Bozhkov, chief of Nove Holding and a gambling mogul, has bought up a deserted village near the southern border, according to reports.

Property VB company, wholly owned by Bozhkov, has purchased 627 decares of land, 24 Hours daily reported. The deals concluded so far are worth BGN 643 089.

Located at an altitude of 1650 meters, the village is considered to be the highest mountainous village in the country.

Bozhkov, whose wealth is estimated at USD 1.5 B, has vowed to turn the place into a natural reserve and preserve its virgin beauty.

Vassil Bozhkov is the only Bulgarian who made his way to the traditional ranking of the 100 richest businessmen in Central and Eastern Europe of Polish weekly Wprost at the end of September.

The businessman, who is former owner of football club CSKA Sofia, dropped one spot in the ranking, down to No 52, with a wealth of USD 1.5 B. At the beginning of the year he was at No 51 with USD 1 B.
